1. Material Damage Including Total Loss of the Vehicle
Covers material damage to the vehicle including parts, pieces and accessories, as a result of a roll-over or accidental collision with moving or stationary objects, fire, lightning or explosion, whether the vehicle is parked or moving,  as long as the driver has been authorized in the Rental Contract and is in possession of a  legal, valid driver's license.

2. Theft or Unauthorized Use
Covers theft of the vehicle, parts or pieces thereof, damage to the vehicle as a result of theft, whether consummated, attempted or frustrated, damage to the vehicle during the time it remains out of the control of the renter as a consequence of consummated theft, unless the perpetrator of said theft is related or well known to the renter, in which case this coverage is rendered null and void.

3. Civil Responsibility and Third-Party Liability
Covers civil liability up to approximately 14,000 U.S. Dollars for damage to third-party persons causing injury, death or damage to their property. In case of injury or death, coverage is limited to medical or funeral expenses.

6. Material Damage caused by Acts of Nature

8. Material Damage as a result of Earthquakes
9. Material Damage as a result of Strikes or Terrorism

Coverage numbers 1, 2, and 4 through 9 are subject to a deductible as published in Rates, Services and Conditions, that is, the renter is responsible for damage to the rental vehicle up to the deductible amount, regardless of fault or cause of the loss or damage. Coverage number 3, Civil Responsibility and Third-Party Liability, has no deductible.

RDS - Reduced Deductible Supplement (optional coverage at additional cost)
An option that lowers the insurance deductible to the amount published in Rates, Services and Conditions. Restrictions: 1) Must be contracted in advance of rental date; 2) Minimum rental 1 week; 3) Renter and additional driver must be 25 years of age or older; 4) does not apply to theft of vehicle accessories, such as radio, hubcaps, mirrors, antenna, etc.

SLP - Supplemental Liability Protection (optional coverage at additional cost)
An option that increases 3rd party liability limit from the standard US$14,000 to US$140,000 (dollar amounts approximate and vary according to exchange rates)

 

 
 

Insurance coverage for Argentina

 

This is optional coverage at additional cost. Covers damage to rental vehicle up to fair market value and third-party liability. Third party liability coverage is limited to A) US$40,000 for death, medical expenses or injury per person, with a maximum of US$200,000 per accident; and B) US$20,000 for property damage per third-party with a maximum of US$40,000 per accident. Theft is not covered. Damage to rental vehicle is subject to a deductible as published in Rates, Services and Conditions. Travel to Peru or Bolivia is not permitted as there is no insurance coverage for those countries.

 

Exclusions

 
 

Insurance coverage will not apply under the following circumstances or conditions:

  • The driver is not in possession of a legal, valid driver's license.
  • The person driving has not been expressly authorized, in the Rental Contract, to drive the rental vehicle.
  • The driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs that produce disinhibitory or hallucinogenic effects or drowsiness. Under Chilean law, a person is construed to be under the influence of alcohol if the concentration of alcohol is equal to, or greater than, 0.8 grams of alcohol per 1000 grams of blood at the time of the accident.
  • Damage caused by misuse or abuse of the vehicle by persons or cargo transported in the vehicle, including cigarette burns, carpet or upholstery stains.
  • Damage to tires, wheels, windows or windshields unless caused as a result of an accident affecting the vehicle.
  • Damage to the vehicle if the driver flees from the scene of an accident.
  • Any damage to the vehicle or third-parties as a result of the commission of a crime, off-road use or use in competition, deliberate malicious acts committed by the driver or his passengers.
  • Failure to follow proper accident reporting procedures as outlined at the time of vehicle pick up.

 

 

Charges for damage to rental vehicle

 
 
 

The renter is responsible for any damage to the rental vehicle. If the damage is covered by the insurance, the renter's liability is limited to the amount of the insurance deductible as described above. Any damage not covered by the insurance is for the renter's account, up to the fair market value of the vehicle.

 

Damage liquidation and rental contract
In case of damage, the rental vehicle will be taken to a garage for a repair estimate by the working day following vehicle return. The rental contract shall remain open until the cost of repair and insurance coverage has been established. Open credit card vouchers shall be withheld until the cost of repair and insurance coverage are confirmed and the rental contract closed.

 

Upholstery stains, cigarette burns or odor, excessive dirtiness in the interior or exterior of the vehicle shall be charged to the renter.
